Purpose of the Test:
• To diagnose or monitor gout
• To assess the risk of kidney stones caused by high uric acid levels
• To help determine the cause of abnormal blood uric acid levels
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for hyperuricemia
Preparation Required:
• Follow a regular diet unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• Avoid alcohol and purine-rich foods (e.g., red meat, shellfish, organ meats) prior to and during collection, if instructed.
• Stay well hydrated during the collection period.
• Store the collection container in a cool place (e.g., refrigerator) during the 24-hour period.
