Why It’s Done
This test is used to:
• Assess Platelet Function
o To detect platelet disorders or dysfunction even if platelet count is normal.
• Evaluate Bleeding Disorders
o To investigate unexplained bruising, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, or prolonged bleeding after injury or surgery.
• Pre-Surgical Screening
o To assess bleeding risk before surgery or invasive procedures.
• Monitor Effects of Drugs
o To check the impact of medications like aspirin or other anti-platelet agents on clotting.
Preparation
• Avoid Certain Medications
o Avoid aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or other blood-thinning medications for at least 7–10 days before the test, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• No Fasting Required
o You can eat and drink normally.
• Inform Your Doctor
o About any bleeding tendencies, medications, or health conditions.
• During the Test
o You will be seated comfortably, and the test site will be cleaned before the incision.
