An X-Ray D-L Spine (AP View) refers to an Anteroposterior (front-to-back) X-ray of the Dorsolumbar Spine, which includes both the thoracic (dorsal) and lumbar regions of the spine. This imaging helps assess the bones, alignment, disc spaces, and structural integrity of the spine from the front view.

    Test Preparation

Usually, the preparation is simple, but here are key points:
    • Clothing: You may be asked to wear a hospital gown to prevent any interference from clothing.
    • Remove metal objects: Take off any belts, jewelry, zippers, or metallic accessories near the back or waist.
    • Fasting: Not required.
    • Bowel Preparation (if advised): In some cases, a mild laxative or enema may be recommended before the test to clear bowel gas or stool that could obscure the spine in the image.
    • Pregnancy: Inform the technician if you are or might be pregnant.
    During the Test
    • You will lie down on your back on the X-ray table.
    • The technician will position you so that your dorsal and lumbar spine is aligned with the X-ray machine.
    • You’ll be asked to remain still and may need to hold your breath briefly during the exposure to avoid motion blur.
    • The procedure is quick and painless, typically completed in 5–10 minutes.
    After the Test
    • You can resume normal activities immediately.
    • A radiologist will evaluate the images and send a report to your doctor for further discussion and treatment planning.
