An X-Ray Right Hand (LAT) refers to a Lateral X-ray of the right hand, where the X-ray beam passes from one side of the hand to the other (side-to-side view). This imaging technique provides a clear profile of the bones and joints of the right hand, including the fingers, wrist, and soft tissues.

It is commonly used to:

• Detect fractures or dislocations
• Evaluate bone alignment or healing post-injury
• Identify arthritis, infections, or tumors
• Assess joint space and soft tissue swelling

    Test Preparation

This is a simple, non-invasive procedure that doesn’t require extensive preparation.

     General Preparation:
    • No fasting or special medications needed.
    • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the right hand and forearm.
    • Remove all metal objects from your hand and wrist, such as rings, bracelets, or watches, to avoid interference with the image.
    • Inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy.

On the Day of the Test:

    • You will be asked to place your right hand on the X-ray table, turned sideways (thumb up) for the lateral view.
    • The technician may use supports to keep the hand steady.
    • Remain still during the image capture to avoid blurring.
    • The process is quick, painless, and typically takes just a few minutes.
