An X-Ray PNS (Paranasal Sinuses) is a diagnostic imaging test used to visualize the air-filled cavities (sinuses) located around the nose, eyes, and forehead. These include the:

• Maxillary sinuses (cheek area)
• Frontal sinuses (forehead)
• Ethmoid sinuses (between the eyes)
• Sphenoid sinuses (behind the eyes)

This test is commonly used to detect:
• Sinusitis (inflammation or infection of the sinuses)
• Mucosal thickening or fluid accumulation
• Blockages or obstructions
• Fractures (due to facial trauma)
• Nasal polyps or masses

Description

Test Preparation

• No fasting or special preparation is needed.
• Remove all metallic items from the face and head, including:
o Eyeglasses
o Jewelry (earrings, nose rings, piercings)
o Hairpins or clips
o Any facial makeup containing metallic particles
• Inform the radiographer if:
o You are pregnant or may be pregnant
o You’ve had recent facial surgery or trauma
