An X-Ray Mandible (LAT) is a diagnostic imaging test that captures a lateral (side) view of the mandible, or lower jaw. In this view, the X-ray beam passes from one side of the face to the other, allowing detailed visualization of the jawbone structure, joints, and surrounding tissues.

    Test Preparation

Preparation is minimal but important for accurate imaging:

    •  Remove Metal Objects:
o Take off glasses, earrings, dentures, facial piercings, or any metallic items that may interfere with the X-ray.
    • Clothing:
o You may be provided a lead apron to wear for radiation protection.
    •  Pregnancy Alert:
o Inform the radiographer if you are or might be pregnant, due to radiation exposure.
    •  Dental Implants/Braces:
o Let the technician know if you have braces, implants, or previous jaw surgery, as these may affect imaging.
    •  Stay Still:
o You’ll be asked to remain very still, and sometimes to bite gently or hold your breath for a few seconds during the scan.
    •  No Fasting Required:
o You can eat and drink normally before the test.
