    Test Preparation

Minimal preparation is required, but the following helps improve image quality:

     Fasting (if advised):
    • In many cases, fasting for 4–6 hours before the test may be recommended, especially if the X-ray is part of a broader abdominal study.
     Bowel Preparation:
    • You may be advised to take a mild laxative or enema the night before the test to reduce gas or stool that could obscure the view of internal organs.
     Hydration:
    • Unless instructed to fast, drink water to stay hydrated. A full bladder may sometimes be needed, depending on the reason for the X-ray.
     Clothing & Accessories:
    • Wear loose-fitting clothes; you may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
    • Remove any metal objects, such as belts, buttons, or jewelry around the abdominal area, as these can interfere with the imaging.
    Pregnancy:
    • Inform the technician if you are or may be pregnant, as abdominal X-rays are generally avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
