Description
Purpose of the Test:
• Assess overall thyroid function
• Diagnose hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
• Monitor thyroid function in patients undergoing thyroid hormone therapy
• Evaluate symptoms like fatigue, weight changes, irregular heartbeat, or changes in body temperature
What the Test Involves:
• A blood sample is collected, typically from a vein in your arm
• The test measures the following thyroid-related hormones:
o TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): Indicates how well the thyroid is functioning
o T4 (Thyroxine): The primary hormone produced by the thyroid gland
o T3 (Triiodothyronine): The active form of thyroid hormone that influences metabolic processes
• Results will provide a comprehensive view of how the thyroid is performing in producing and regulating these hormones
