    Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline

    • General Preparation:
      • Remove all metal objects (jewelry, piercings, watches, etc.) to prevent interference.
      • Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers or buttons. A hospital gown may be provided.
      • Inform your doctor if you have metal implants, pacemakers, artificial joints, or surgical clips, as these may affect the MRI.
    • Fasting & Medication:
      • Fasting is not required for most knee MRI scans.
      • If the MRI requires contrast dye, you may need to fast for 4–6 hours before the test.
      • Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, diabetes, or allergies, as these may affect contrast use.
    • Contrast Injection (if required):
      • A contrast agent (gadolinium dye) may be injected to enhance image clarity.
      • If contrast is used, you may feel a cool sensation when the dye is administered through an IV.
      Sedation (if needed):
      • If you have claustrophobia or difficulty staying still, mild sedation may be an option.
    • During the MRI:
      • The test takes 30–45 minutes. You must lie still for clear images.
      • Your left leg will be positioned inside the MRI machine, while the rest of your body may remain outside.
      • The machine produces loud knocking sounds; earplugs or headphones may be provided for comfort.
