Test Preparation
To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:
- General Preparation:
• Remove all metal objects (jewelry, piercings, watches, etc.) to prevent interference.
• Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers or buttons. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
• Inform your doctor if you have any metal implants, pacemakers, or surgical clips, as these may affect the MRI. - Fasting & Medication:
• Fasting is not required for most foot MRI scans.
• If the MRI requires contrast dye, you may be asked to fast for 4–6 hours before the scan.
• Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, diabetes, or allergies, as these may affect contrast use. - Contrast Injection (if required):
• A contrast agent (gadolinium dye) may be injected to enhance image clarity.
• You may feel a cool sensation when the dye is administered through an IV.
Sedation (if needed):
• If you have claustrophobia or difficulty staying still, mild sedation may be an option. - During the MRI:
• The test takes 30–45 minutes. You must lie still for clear images.
• Your left foot will be placed inside the MRI machine while the rest of your body remains outside.
• The machine produces loud knocking sounds; earplugs or headphones may be provided for comfort.
