Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is typically done when a person presents symptoms suggestive of malaria, such as:
• Fever with chills
• Sweating and fatigue
• Headache and muscle pain
• Nausea or vomiting
Preparation:
• No fasting or special preparation is required.
• A finger-prick blood sample is commonly used for this test.
• Inform your doctor about any antimalarial drugs you may have recently taken, as this might affect the result.
• Follow-up with a blood smear test (thick & thin) may be recommended to confirm the diagnosis and assess the parasite load.
