Description
Why It’s Done:
• For women, the Inhibin-B test is often used to assess ovarian reserve (the quantity and quality of a woman’s eggs), which is important in fertility evaluations. It can also be used to evaluate polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), monitor ovarian function during fertility treatments, or evaluate ovarian response in assisted reproductive technologies.
• For men, the test is used to assess testicular function, particularly in cases of infertility. It can also be used to evaluate sperm production and in the diagnosis of certain testicular disorders.
• Inhibin-B levels are also important in assessing gonadal function in individuals with suspected hypogonadism or premature ovarian failure.
Preparation:
• Fasting is usually not required, but always follow specific instructions from your healthcare provider.
• A blood sample is drawn from a vein, typically in the arm.
• Timing of the test may be important for women, especially for evaluating ovarian reserve, so your doctor may recommend testing at a specific point in your menstrual cycle.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, especially hormonal treatments, as they can affect Inhibin-B levels.
