    Description

    Why It’s Done:
    • To check for past exposure to Influenza A virus.
    • To determine immune status following infection or vaccination.
    • Used in serological surveys and epidemiological studies.
    • Sometimes used to support diagnosis in cases with a history of flu-like symptoms, when acute testing wasn’t done.
Note: This test is not used to detect current infection, as IgG antibodies take time to develop. For active infection, a PCR or rapid antigen test is preferred.

    Preparation:
    • No special preparation is required.
    • A standard blood sample is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm.
    • Patients should inform the healthcare provider about any recent vaccinations, infections, or immune conditions, which may affect the results.
