Test Preparation
To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:
- Before the Scan:
Fasting: Required for 4–6 hours before the can if contrast dye is used.
Clothing & Accessories: Wear loose, comfortable clothing and remove metal objects (jewelry, belts, zippers, etc.). - Medical History: Inform your doctor if you:
• Are pregnant or suspect pregnancy.
• Have kidney disease (since contrast dye is used).
• Have allergies to iodine-based contrast dye.
• Have diabetes and are taking Metformin (it may need to be stopped before the test). - During the Scan:
A contrast dye (iodine-based) is injected into a vein (usually in the arm) to visualize the portal veins.
The scan takes 10–15 minutes, and you may feel a warm sensation when the contrast is injected.
You will be asked to hold your breath briefly during the scan to avoid motion blur. - After the Scan:
Drink plenty of water to help flush the contrast dye from your body.
Resume normal activities unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
In rare cases, if you experience allergic reactions like rash, dizziness, or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
