Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is usually ordered to:
• Diagnose an active or recent chickenpox (varicella) or shingles (herpes zoster) infection, especially when symptoms are atypical.
• Confirm acute VZV infection in pregnant women, newborns, or immunocompromised individuals.
• Differentiate between new and past infections, particularly in cases where quick diagnosis is important.
• Investigate unexplained rashes, fever, or other symptoms suggestive of chickenpox.
Preparation:
• No fasting or special preparation is required.
• Inform your doctor of any recent vaccinations, medications, or underlying health conditions, as these can influence test results.
• A blood sample will be collected from a vein in your arm using a standard procedure
