Why It’s Done
This test is ordered to:
• Evaluate aluminium exposure in individuals at risk due to environmental or occupational contact
• Monitor aluminium accumulation in patients with impaired kidney function or those on dialysis
• Investigate symptoms that may be linked to aluminium toxicity, such as bone pain, neurological symptoms, or anemia
• Assess the effectiveness of treatments aimed at reducing aluminium levels in the body
Preparation for the Test
• Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully regarding urine collection.
• Avoid contamination: Use a clean, sterile container for urine collection.
• Begin by discarding the first morning urine, then collect all urine for the next 24 hours, including the first urine of the following morning.
• Store the collected urine in a cool place or as instructed during the collection period.
• Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements, as some may affect aluminium levels.
• Maintain normal diet and hydration unless otherwise advised.
