Why It’s Done:
• To diagnose allergy to dog dander in individuals who experience symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes, coughing, wheezing, or asthma triggered by exposure to dogs.
• To identify environmental allergens contributing to respiratory or skin allergy symptoms.
• To guide allergen avoidance strategies and personalized treatment plans including medications or immunotherapy.
• To evaluate allergic causes in people who live with or are frequently exposed to dogs.
Preparation:
• For blood tests:
– No fasting or special preparation required.
– Continue medications unless otherwise advised by your healthcare provider.
• For skin tests:
– Avoid antihistamines for 3 to 7 days prior to testing as they may interfere with results (consult your doctor).
– Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
– Wear clothing that allows easy access to the skin, such as short sleeves
