Description
Why It’s Done:
• To guide effective treatment for patients with drug-resistant TB.
• To detect resistance to Amikacin in cases of MDR-TB or XDR-TB.
• To help clinicians tailor antibiotic regimens for better treatment success.
• To prevent ineffective antibiotic use, reducing the risk of treatment failure and spread of resistant bacteria.
Preparation:
• No special preparation is needed from the patient.
• Clinical specimens (such as sputum, pleural fluid, or tissue) must be collected in sterile containers and sent promptly to the laboratory.
• Inform your healthcare provider of any current TB or antibiotic treatments.
• Since the test relies on bacterial culture, results typically take several weeks
