Test Preparation
To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:
- Before the Scan:
Fasting: Not required in most cases.
Hydration: Drink water before the test unless advised otherwise. - Clothing & Accessories:
• Wear comfortable clothing.
• Remove metal objects (jewelry, piercings, dentures) near the head and neck. - Medical History:
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy.
• Mention any allergies to contrast dye or iodine.
• Inform if you have a history of salivary gland diseases or surgeries. - During the Scan:
Contrast Injection:
• A contrast dye is injected into the salivary duct using a small catheter.
• You may feel mild pressure or discomfort for a few seconds. - CT Imaging:
• You will lie on the CT table, and images will be taken to evaluate the ducts and glands.
• The procedure is quick (about 15–20 minutes) and painless. - Breathing Instructions:
• You may be asked to hold your breath for clearer images. - After the Scan:
Drink plenty of water to help flush out the contrast dye.
You may experience temporary mild swelling or discomfort in the salivary gland area.
Resume normal activities unless instructed otherwise.
Watch for allergic reactions (itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing) and seek medical attention if needed.
