• To assess kidney function and monitor individuals with chronic kidney disease.
• To evaluate calcium imbalances or investigate causes of high or low blood calcium levels.
• To diagnose or monitor parathyroid disorders or rare conditions like sarcoidosis and some lymphomas.
• Not typically used to check for general vitamin D deficiency.
