The Protein Urine Random test measures the amount of protein present in a single, random urine sample. Normally, urine contains very little protein. The presence of a higher amount can be an early sign of kidney disease or other medical conditions affecting the kidneys.

Description

Why It’s Done:
• To screen for kidney disease or damage
• To monitor existing kidney conditions
• To evaluate patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other risk factors for kidney problems
• To detect urinary tract infections (UTIs) or inflammation
• To follow up on abnormal findings from other urine or blood tests

Preparation:
• No special preparation is usually required for a random urine protein test.
• Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, as some drugs can affect test results.
• Avoid strenuous exercise before the test, as it may temporarily increase protein levels in urine.
• Follow any specific instructions given by your healthcare provider.
