Description
Why It’s Done:
FNAC is done to:
• Diagnose lumps or masses to determine if they are benign, malignant, or inflammatory
• Investigate cysts, nodules, or lymphadenopathy
• Provide rapid, accurate, and low-cost diagnosis without the need for surgical biopsy
• Guide further treatment or management, including the need for surgery or medical therapy
Preparation:
Fasting: Not required
• Medications: Inform your doctor if you’re taking blood thinners or have any bleeding disorders
• Consent: You’ll be asked to sign a consent form before the procedure
• Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing; you may be asked to change into a gown depending on the site of aspiration
• Anesthesia: Usually not required; a local anesthetic may be used for sensitive areas
• Aftercare: You may have a small bandage over the site; minor discomfort or bruising is normal
