FNAC is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to extract a small sample of tissue or fluid from a lump or mass using a fine, thin needle. The collected material is then examined under a microscope to study the type and nature of cells—whether they are benign, malignant, inflammatory, or infectious.
FNAC is commonly performed on swellings in the thyroid, breast, lymph nodes, salivary glands, or soft tissues.

    FNAC is done to:
    • Diagnose lumps or masses to determine if they are benign, malignant, or inflammatory
    • Investigate cysts, nodules, or lymphadenopathy
    • Provide rapid, accurate, and low-cost diagnosis without the need for surgical biopsy
    • Guide further treatment or management, including the need for surgery or medical therapy

    • Medications: Inform your doctor if you’re taking blood thinners or have any bleeding disorders
    • Consent: You’ll be asked to sign a consent form before the procedure
    • Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing; you may be asked to change into a gown depending on the site of aspiration
