This test is ordered to:
• Detect Yeast or Fungal Bloodstream Infections
o Identify the presence of yeast causing systemic infections.
• Guide Antifungal Therapy
o Helps select effective antifungal medications based on the detected organism.
• Monitor Infection Progress
o To evaluate the success of treatment for fungal infections.
• Assess Immunocompromised Patients
o Patients with weakened immune systems (e.g., cancer, HIV, transplant recipients) are at higher risk for fungal infections.
Preparation
• No Fasting Required
o You can eat and drink normally before the test.
• Medications
o Inform your healthcare provider if you are on antifungal drugs or other medications.
• Sample Collection
o Blood samples are collected under sterile conditions from a vein, often from multiple sites.
o Skin is thoroughly disinfected to prevent contamination.
