Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Help diagnose Type 1 diabetes mellitus by detecting autoimmune activity
• Differentiate between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, especially in ambiguous cases
• Identify individuals at risk of developing Type 1 diabetes, including relatives of affected patients
• Assist in research or monitoring of autoimmune diabetes progression
Preparation:
• No special preparation is needed.
• Blood is drawn from a vein, typically in the arm.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any current medications or health conditions.
• Fasting is not required.
