Why It’s Done
This test is ordered to:
• Diagnose allergic rhinitis, asthma, or other allergic reactions caused by Sweet Vernal grass pollen
• Identify triggers for seasonal allergies or hay fever symptoms
• Guide allergen avoidance and allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots)
• Differentiate Sweet Vernal allergy from other grass pollen allergies
Preparation for the Test
• Fasting: Not required.
• Medications: Inform your healthcare provider about any antihistamines, corticosteroids, or allergy medications, as they may interfere with test results, especially for skin testing.
• No special preparation is needed for blood tests.
• For skin tests, avoid antihistamines for several days prior as instructed by your healthcare provider.
• A blood sample or skin prick test will be performed.
