Why It’s Done:
• To diagnose Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia in patients with symptoms such as fatigue, bruising, infections, or anemia.
• To classify AML subtypes for appropriate treatment planning.
• To detect genetic abnormalities that influence prognosis and guide targeted therapy.
• To monitor response to treatment and detect relapse.
• To assist in risk assessment and guide therapy choices.
Preparation:
• No special preparation is usually required for blood tests.
• Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy may require fasting for several hours prior and avoiding certain medications, as directed by the healthcare provider.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, allergies, or medical conditions before testing.
• Follow any specific instructions given for the bone marrow procedure.
