DEXA Single Site is a bone mineral density (BMD) scan that measures bone strength at one specific location, commonly one of the following:

• Femur (hip)
• Spine (lumbar region)
• Forearm (radius/ulna)

It is typically used when a full scan isn’t necessary or when there are limitations (e.g., due to surgery, arthritis, or implants) that prevent scanning multiple sites.

Description

Test Preparation

 Do’s:
• Continue with your normal diet on the day of the scan.
• Wear loose-fitting clothing without metal (zippers, hooks, snaps).
• Inform your doctor if you’ve had any imaging tests with contrast (e.g., barium or nuclear medicine) recently.

 Don’ts:
• Avoid calcium supplements for 24 hours before the test.
• Don’t wear metal jewelry or accessories near the scan area.
• Avoid scheduling the scan within 1–2 weeks after contrast imaging.
