An X-Ray MCU, also known as a Micturating Cystourethrogram, is a fluoroscopic imaging test used to evaluate the bladder and urethra while a person is urinating (micturating). This dynamic study helps doctors observe the flow of urine, bladder function, and check for conditions like:

• Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) – when urine flows backward from the bladder to the kidneys
• Bladder outlet obstruction
• Urethral stricture or narrowing
• Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Posterior urethral valves (mostly in male children)

    Test Preparation

No special preparation is generally needed, but here’s what to do:

Empty stomach may be recommended for infants or young children undergoing sedation.
Hydration: The patient may be encouraged to drink water beforehand for better bladder filling.
