600.00

An X-Ray Mastoid (AP + LAT) is a diagnostic imaging test that captures two standard views — Anteroposterior (AP) and Lateral (LAT) — of the mastoid bone, which is located just behind the ear and is part of the temporal bone of the skull.

This X-ray helps visualize the air cells within the mastoid bone, often to assess ear infections, bone abnormalities, or post-surgical changes.

    Test Preparation

Generally, no special preparation is needed for a mastoid X-ray, but here are a few standard instructions:

    •  Remove Metal Items:
o Remove earrings, hairpins, glasses, hearing aids, or any head or neck jewelry that could interfere with the imaging.
    •  Hair:
o Ensure hair is tied back or off the ears to allow a clear view of the mastoid area.
    •  Pregnancy Alert:
o Inform the radiographer if you are or might be pregnant, as precautions need to be taken due to radiation.
    •  Clothing:
o You may be asked to change into a gown and wear a lead apron for protection.
    •  Stay Still:
o You must remain still during the X-ray and may need to hold your breath briefly to avoid blurry images.
