Description
Test Preparation
This test typically requires minimal preparation, but here’s what to keep in mind:
• Clothing: You may be asked to wear a hospital gown to avoid interference from clothing.
• Remove metal items: Take off any jewelry, belts, zippers, or metal objects near your back or chest area.
• Bowel Preparation (if advised): Occasionally, a mild laxative or enema may be recommended to reduce bowel gas or stool that can block clear imaging.
• Fasting: Not necessary.
• Pregnancy: Inform the radiographer if you are or might be pregnant.
During the Test
• For the AP view, you’ll lie on your back while the X-ray is taken from the front.
• For the Lateral view, you’ll either lie on your side or stand sideways, depending on your condition and the setup.
• You’ll be asked to stay still and possibly hold your breath briefly to prevent motion blur.
• The test is painless and usually takes around 10–15 minutes for both views.
After the Test
• You can resume all normal activities immediately.
• A radiologist will review the images and send a report to your doctor, who will discuss the findings with you.
