An X-Ray Cervical Spine (AP + Lateral) is a diagnostic imaging test that provides two standard views of the neck (cervical spine):

• AP (Anteroposterior) View – taken from front to back
• Lateral View – taken from the side

These views help assess the vertebrae (C1 to C7), alignment, disc spaces, and surrounding soft tissues.

    Description

    Test Preparation

    Generally, no special preparation is required. Follow these basic instructions:

    • Clothing: You may be asked to wear a hospital gown.
    • Metal objects: Remove all jewelry, eyeglasses, hearing aids, or metal objects near the head and neck.
    • Pregnancy: Inform the radiographer if you are or might be pregnant.
    • Medical conditions: Let the technician know if you have difficulty moving your neck or any previous neck surgeries.
    During the Test
    • You’ll be asked to stand or sit upright.
    • The technician will take:
    • One X-ray from the front (AP view)
    • One X-ray from the side (lateral view)
    • You must stay very still during image capture to avoid blurry results.
    • The entire process takes around 10–15 minutes and is painless.
    After the Test
    • You can resume normal activities immediately.
    • A radiologist will review your X-rays and send the report to your doctor for further evaluation.
