    Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline

    • General Preparation:
      • Remove all metal objects (jewelry, watches, piercings, etc.) before the scan to prevent interference with the MRI.
      • Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers, buttons, or hooks. You may be provided with a hospital gown.
      • Inform your doctor if you have any metal implants, pacemakers, or surgical clips as these may interfere with the MRI.
    • Fasting & Medication:
      • Fasting is generally not required for most shoulder MRI scans.
      • If the MRI requires a contrast dye, you may be asked to fast for 4–6 hours before the test.
      • Inform your doctor about any medications, especially if you are on any that may affect kidney function or contrast use.
    • Contrast Injection (if required):
      • A contrast agent (gadolinium dye) may be used to provide clearer images of the tissues and structures. This is especially useful for detailed imaging of the soft tissues around the shoulder joint.
      • If contrast is used, you may feel a cool sensation during the injection, which is normal.
      Sedation (if needed):
      • If you experience claustrophobia or find it difficult to remain still, your doctor may offer mild sedation to help you relax during the scan.
    • During the MRI:
      • The procedure typically takes 30–45 minutes.
      • You will need to lie still during the scan to ensure clear images. Your left shoulder will be positioned inside the MRI machine while the rest of your body may remain outside.
