An X-Ray Sternum AP View is a diagnostic imaging test used to visualize the sternum (breastbone) from front to back. It helps assess the sternum and adjacent chest structures, particularly when there is pain, injury, or suspected abnormalities in the chest.

    Description

    Test Preparation

     Fasting:
    o Not required; you may eat and drink normally.
    Clothing & Accessories:
    o Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
    o You may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
    o Remove any metal objects from the chest and neck area, including:
    Necklaces
    Body piercings
    Undergarments with metal clips
    Clothing with zippers or metallic buttons
     Inform the Radiologist If:
    o You are pregnant or suspect pregnancy
    o You have implants, pacemakers, or have had recent chest surgery
     During the Procedure:
    o You’ll be asked to lie on your back or stand, depending on the setup.
    o The X-ray beam will be directed from front to back.
    o You must stay still and may be asked to hold your breath briefly during the exposure to ensure image clarity.
    o A lateral view may also be taken depending on your condition.
