X-RAY Chest-LAT

An X-Ray Chest (Lateral View) is a diagnostic imaging test that captures a side view of the chest. It is often performed alongside a PA (posteroanterior) chest X-ray to provide a more complete picture of the lungs, heart, ribs, and surrounding structures.

The lateral view helps visualize parts of the chest that may be hidden in a front-view X-ray, such as areas behind the heart or diaphragm.

    Test Preparation

Minimal preparation is required, but the following steps are important:
    • Clothing: You may be asked to wear a hospital gown.
    • Remove metal items: Take off jewelry, bras, glasses, or anything metallic from the chest and upper body area.
    • Pregnancy: Inform the radiographer if you are or might be pregnant.
    • Breathing: You’ll be asked to hold your breath during the image to reduce motion and get a clear picture.
    During the Test
    • You will be asked to stand sideways to the X-ray machine, with your arms raised or placed on top of your head.
    • The X-ray will be taken from the side of your body.
    • You’ll need to stay still and hold your breath for a few seconds while the image is captured.
    • The procedure is quick, safe, and painless, usually taking about 5–10 minutes.
    After the Test
    • You can resume normal activities immediately.
    • A radiologist will analyze the image, and your doctor will review the results with you.
