An X-Ray Cervical Spine (AP) is a diagnostic test that captures an anteroposterior (front-to-back) view of the cervical spine (neck region). This view allows doctors to evaluate the alignment, vertebral bodies (C1–C7), and the intervertebral disc spaces.

    Description

    Test Preparation

    Typically, no special preparation is needed. However, follow these basic guidelines:

    • Clothing: You may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
    • Remove metal objects: Remove jewelry, eyeglasses, hearing aids, or anything metallic around the neck or chest area.
    • Pregnancy: Inform the radiographer if you are or may be pregnant.
    • Medical conditions: Let the technician know if you have limited neck movement, pain, or history of surgery in the area.
    During the Test
    • You will be asked to stand or sit upright facing the X-ray machine.
    • Your head and neck will be positioned in a neutral (natural) position.
    • The technician will take the X-ray from the front (AP view).
    • You’ll need to stay still during the image capture to avoid blurring.
    • The procedure is quick, safe, and painless, usually completed in 5–10 minutes.
    After the Test
    • You can return to your normal activities immediately.
    • A radiologist will analyze the image and your doctor will review the results with you
