Description
Test Preparation
Usually, no special preparation is required, but follow these general guidelines:
• Clothing: You may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
• Metal objects: Remove all metallic items like belts, jewelry, and coins that may interfere with the image.
• Bowel Preparation (if advised): In some cases, a mild laxative may be suggested a day before to clear bowel gas that can obscure the view.
• Pregnancy: Inform the technician if you are or might be pregnant.
During the Test
• You’ll be asked to lie down on the X-ray table, usually turning slightly to each side to obtain the oblique views of both SI joints.
• The technician will position you properly and may place supports for comfort.
• You must stay still while the X-rays are taken.
• The test is painless and typically takes 15–20 minutes.
After the Test
• You can resume normal activities immediately.
• The radiologist will evaluate the images and your doctor will discuss the findings with you.
