Description
Why It’s Done:
The TORCH IgG Test is primarily used to:
• Determine immunity: To identify if a person has been previously exposed to a specific TORCH pathogen and is likely immune to it. This is particularly important for pregnant women to assess if they are at risk of infecting the fetus.
• Screen for past infections: To assess whether a person has had a past infection with one or more of the TORCH pathogens.
• Guide treatment decisions: For pregnant women or individuals at risk of these infections, identifying past exposure can help guide medical decisions and pregnancy management.
Sample Collection:
• A blood sample is drawn from a vein in the arm.
• The blood is then tested for the presence of IgG antibodies to the TORCH pathogens.
