Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is used to:
• Evaluate overall immune function: A normal TLC indicates a healthy immune response, while abnormal levels can suggest an issue.
• Diagnose infections: High or low TLC can indicate an infection or immune disorder.
• Monitor health conditions: It is used in monitoring conditions like leukemia, bone marrow disorders, or autoimmune diseases.
• Assess response to treatment: In patients undergoing treatments that affect the immune system, such as chemotherapy or immunosuppressive drugs.
Sample Collection:
• A blood sample is collected from a vein in the arm using a needle.
• The blood is then analyzed in a laboratory to count the number of white blood cells.
