Description
Purpose of the Test:
• Monitor tacrolimus levels in patients taking the medication
• Ensure drug concentration stays within the therapeutic range
• Prevent organ transplant rejection (especially kidney, liver, or heart)
• Detect toxicity or underdosing
What the Test Involves:
• A blood sample is drawn, usually just before the next dose (trough level)
• The sample is tested using immunoassay or liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
• Results guide dosing adjustments by the healthcare provider
