Description
Why It’s Done:
• To aid in the diagnosis of Sjögren’s syndrome, particularly in individuals with dry eyes, dry mouth, or joint pain.
• To support the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and monitor disease progression.
• To investigate symptoms such as fatigue, rashes, joint inflammation, or photosensitivity (sensitivity to sunlight).
• To evaluate risks in pregnancy, as SS-A antibodies can be linked to neonatal lupus and congenital heart block in newborns.
Preparation:
• Fasting: Not required.
• Medications: Inform your healthcare provider about any current medications, especially immunosuppressants, as they might affect the test outcome.
• Special Instructions:
o No special preparation is needed.
o Be sure to inform your doctor about any symptoms or existing autoimmune conditions for accurate interpretation.
