Description
Why It’s Done:
• To aid in the early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of liver cancer (especially HCC).
• To help differentiate between malignant and benign liver conditions.
• To monitor response to treatment or detect recurrence of liver cancer.
How the Test Works:
The test measures the level of PIVKA-II in the blood. Elevated levels may indicate abnormal liver function or the presence of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Preparation:
Generally, no special preparation is needed. However, inform your doctor about any medications, especially those affecting vitamin K levels or liver function.
Interpretation of Results:
• Normal Range: Typically low or undetectable.
• Elevated Levels: May suggest hepatocellular carcinoma or vitamin K deficiency.
• Further imaging or liver function tests may be needed for confirmation.
