This test is commonly performed to:
• Screen for substance abuse or recreational drug use.
• Monitor individuals in drug rehabilitation or treatment programs.
• Assess overdose or intoxication symptoms, such as aggression, hallucinations, confusion, or detachment from reality.
• Comply with workplace drug testing policies or legal/forensic requirements.
Preparation
• No fasting is required.
• A clean-catch urine sample is needed:
o Avoid excessive fluid intake before the test to prevent dilution.
o Follow instructions carefully for collecting the midstream urine sample.
• Inform the healthcare provider about any prescription or over-the-counter medications, as some drugs may cause false positives.
