Why It’s Done:
This test is done to:
• Determine if a person has had a previous infection with Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
• Support the diagnosis of atypical pneumonia, especially in patients with prolonged or recurrent respiratory symptoms.
• Help identify the cause of chronic respiratory issues or post-infectious complications such as rash, joint pain, or neurological symptoms.
• Monitor immune response in individuals with suspected reinfection or exposure.
Preparation:
• No fasting or special preparation is required.
• A blood sample is taken from a vein in your arm.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any recent infections or vaccines, as they may influence antibody levels.
