Description
Why It’s Done:
The Mycobacteria IgA test is performed to:
• Assist in diagnosing active tuberculosis (TB) or NTM infections, especially in complex or chronic cases.
• Support diagnosis in individuals with non-conclusive sputum or imaging results.
• Monitor the immune response in patients suspected of chronic or relapsing mycobacterial infections.
• Evaluate patients with symptoms like persistent cough, weight loss, fever, or night sweats, where TB is suspected.
Preparation:
• No fasting or special preparation is needed.
• A simple blood sample is drawn from a vein.
• Inform your doctor about any recent infections, vaccinations, or immune conditions, as these may affect antibody levels.
