An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of the Face and Neck is a medical imaging procedure that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the soft tissues in the face and neck area. This can help doctors diagnose a variety of conditions, such as tumors, infections, nerve damage, blood vessel problems, or abnormalities in the bones or tissues in this region.

    Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

    • Remove Metal Objects: You will be asked to remove any jewelry, glasses, hearing aids, or any other metal objects, as they can interfere with the magnetic field.
    • Clothing: You may be asked to change into a gown or loose-fitting clothing without metal fasteners, zippers, or buttons.
    • Food and Drink: In many cases, no special dietary restrictions are required. However, if the MRI is being done with contrast (a dye injected into a vein to improve image clarity), you may be asked to fast for a few hours before the procedure.
    • Contrast Agent: If your doctor orders an MRI with contrast, a contrast agent (such as gadolinium) may be injected through an intravenous (IV) line. It’s important to inform your doctor if you’re allergic to any contrast agents or have any kidney problems.
    • Inform Your Doctor: If you have a pacemaker, implantable devices, or other metal implants, you must inform your doctor before the MRI. These devices could be affected by the magnetic field.
    • Sedation: In some cases, if you have difficulty remaining still or are anxious, your doctor may discuss options for sedation or anti-anxiety medication.
