An MRI Dorsal Spine is a non-invasive imaging test that produces detailed images of the dorsal (thoracic) spine, which is the middle section of the spine located between the neck and lower back. This test helps diagnose conditions affecting the vertebrae, spinal cord, nerves, and surrounding soft tissues, including:

  •  Herniated or bulging discs
  •  Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)
  •  Spinal cord compression or injury
  •  Tumors, infections, or cysts
  •  Degenerative disc disease
  •  Fractures or trauma to the thoracic spine

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

    General Preparation:

    • Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers, buttons, or accessories.
    • Remove jewelry, piercings, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and any metallic items.
    • Inform the technician if you have metal implants (such as pacemakers, stents, aneurysm clips, or spinal hardware).
    • Avoid hair products, makeup, or lotions that contain metallic particles, as they can affect imaging quality.

    Fasting & Medication:

    • No fasting required unless a contrast dye is being used (your doctor will inform you).
    • Continue taking prescribed medications unless your doctor gives other instructions.
    •  If contrast dye is required, inform your doctor about allergies to contrast agents or any kidney issues.

    Special Considerations:

    • Inform the technician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
    • If you experience claustrophobia, you can discuss sedation options with your doctor.
    • If you have had previous back surgeries or injuries in the thoracic spine area, inform the technician for accurate imaging interpretation.
