MRI Brain (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a detailed scan that captures high-resolution images of the brain’s structure to detect abnormalities such as tumors, strokes, infections, or injuries.

MRA Brain (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) is a specialized imaging technique that focuses on the blood vessels (arteries) in the brain. It helps evaluate blockages, aneurysms, vascular malformations, and blood flow disorders without using invasive catheter-based procedures.

In some cases, a contrast dye (gadolinium) may be injected into the bloodstream to enhance visualization of the arteries.

    Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

    • Fasting: Generally not required, but if contrast dye is used, you may be asked to fast for 4-6 hours before the test.
    • Clothing & Accessories: Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal (zippers, buttons, or jewelry). A hospital gown may be provided.
    • Metal Objects: Remove all watches, glasses, hearing aids, piercings, or dental implants, as MRI uses a strong magnet.
    • Medical Implants: Inform the radiologist if you have any pacemakers, aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, or metal implants, as MRI may not be safe.
    • Claustrophobia: If you are claustrophobic (fear of enclosed spaces), inform your doctor. A mild sedative may be prescribed.
    • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, especially if contrast dye is required.
    • Contrast Dye (if applicable): If contrast is needed, inform the technician about any history of allergies, kidney disease, or asthma.
