Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is performed to:
• Confirm immunity to measles, especially in:
o Healthcare workers
o Pregnant women
o Students entering school or college
o Individuals traveling to areas with known outbreaks
• Determine immune status in people with uncertain vaccination or infection history
• Support outbreak investigations
• Occasionally, to confirm a past measles infection
Unlike the IgM test (used for diagnosing a current or recent infection), the IgG test is primarily used to verify long-term immunity.
Preparation:
• No fasting or special preparation is needed.
• A blood sample is collected from a vein in your arm.
• Let your healthcare provider know if you’ve received any recent vaccinations, especially the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella), as it may influence test timing or interpretation.
