Why It’s Done:
This test may be used to:
• Check for prior exposure to Influenza A or B viruses.
• Support diagnosis in certain cases where antigen or PCR testing isn’t available or conclusive.
• Evaluate immune status after infection or vaccination.
• Support surveillance and research on flu virus exposure in populations.
It is not commonly used for diagnosing acute flu infections, as antibodies take several days to develop after symptoms begin.
Preparation:
• Sample required: Blood sample (usually drawn from a vein in the arm).
• No fasting or special preparation is required.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any recent infections or vaccinations, as these may affect results.
• Let your doctor know about any medications or immune conditions that could influence your antibody levels.
