    Why It’s Done:

    The IHC – CD5 test is ordered to:
    1. Diagnose Lymphomas:
    o Differentiate between types of lymphomas, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or mantle cell lymphoma.
    2. Classify Lymphoid Cells:
    o Determine the cell lineage (T-cell vs B-cell) in lymphoid malignancies.

    4. Evaluate Tissue Samples:
    o Confirm the presence and extent of disease in biopsies.

    Preparation:

    • Patient Preparation:
    o No special preparation is required by the patient since this test is performed on a tissue biopsy sample already collected.
    • Sample Collection:
    o A tissue biopsy is obtained via surgery or needle biopsy and sent to the pathology lab for analysis.
    • Information for Lab:
    o Provide clinical history and relevant details to the pathologist to aid interpretation.
